The Cowtown Marathon, a race that’s become a staple of Fort Worth’s athletic culture for nearly 50 years, is about to make room for a few more runners, thanks to a last-minute capacity boost for the half marathon. With the Sunday, Feb. 23 event just around the corner, organizers have announced they’re reopening registration for 350 more runners after pausing it back on Jan. 26, according to a release.
Registration for the new category, Half Marathon Additional Entries, kicks off Monday, Feb. 3, at 6 a.m. CT. But don’t wait too long — once those 350 spots are filled, or by 11:59 p.m. CT on Feb. 10, registration will close for good. So, if you’ve been itching to join in the excitement, now’s your chance.
“We appreciate runners’ patience and understanding as we adjust for record attendance at the 2025 event,” said executive director Heidi Swartz. “Our top priority is ensuring the safety of all participants, which requires careful coordination with city officials, law enforcement, and our lead volunteers. The Cowtown standard is to provide an enjoyable and memorable experience for all involved.”
Important Guidelines/Conditions for Half Marathon Additional Entries:
- Participants' finisher shirts and medals will be available in Spring 2025; they will not be available on race weekend.
- Participants will receive a runner shirt at packet pick-up.
- Participants will be placed in starting Corral #7 regardless of their anticipated pace. Participants will be chip-timed along with all other runners.
- A unique race bib will distinguish runners from other half-marathon participants for logistical purposes.
As for the full and ultra marathons, things are just about wrapped up. Both races hit capacity back in December, but due to early demand, additional spots were added. Now, with only 24 days to go until race weekend, fewer than 10 spots remain. Once those are gone, they’re gone — so if you’re eyeing one of those, make your move soon.
The good news? If you’re still interested in racing, Saturday’s 5K and 10K distances are still open for registration, so there’s still time to get involved in one of the city’s most anticipated athletic events.
For the past 47 years, The Cowtown has been more than just a race — it’s become a tradition. It’s a weekend that brings together runners of all backgrounds, some chasing a personal best and others chasing the thrill of crossing the finish line. In-person race options include the Adult 5K, Kids 5K presented by PNC Bank, 10K, Half Marathon, Full Marathon, and Ultra Marathon presented by Miller Lite. And for those who can’t make it to Fort Worth, virtual options are available for every race. All proceeds from the event benefit the C.A.L.F. Program, which provides running shoes and support to underserved youth across the city.
So whether you’re out there for the challenge, the charity, or the thrill of the run, The Cowtown is ready to welcome you. And with the clock ticking, you’ve got just a little time left to make your mark in the 2025 race.
