Dr. John Geesbreght, the more than 40-year medical director of emergency medicine at Texas Health Harris Methodist Hospital Fort Worth, has died. Geesbreght Sunday morning suffered a “massive stroke,” according to a Texas Health Resources news release.
Geesbreght, known as a physician leader, helped elevate Texas Health Fort Worth’s ER and trauma program to regional and national caliber. His accolades include helping found the first scribe company in the U.S. and the regional Texas Health ER physician group.
For Geesbreght’s mentorship and accomplishments, the Marion Emergency Center’s simulation training lab is named in his honor. Geesbreght and his wife, Priscilla, also donated to support the construction of the Justin Patient Surgical Tower at Texas Health Fort Worth.
“Texas Health Fort Worth is a beacon of hope and healing because of people like Dr. Geesbreght. He will be missed but never forgotten,” said Barclay Berdan, CEO of Texas Health Resources, in the release. “While we mourn his passing, we know that his family is deeply grieving and pray they find peace during this difficult time.”
Geesbreght is among 20 physicians selected for Fort Worth Inc.'s 400 Most Influential People list for 2019. He served in his role since 1974, and was previously the president of Texas College of Emergency Physicians.
The physician received his bachelor's degree from the University of Illinois - Chicago Circle, graduated from the Loyola-Stritch School of Medicine in 1969 and received his master's degree in physiology from Loyola Graduate School. He studied at the Chicago Conservatory of Music for 10 years as a student of composition and piano.
