Drew Medford Memorial Tournament
Under the glow of stadium lights and the rhythmic crack of bats, the Drew Medford Memorial Tournament (DMMT) returns for its ninth year, a celebration of baseball, brotherhood, and the unwavering spirit of a young man gone too soon.
From March 6-8, 29 high school teams will take the field at eight host sites across the Fort Worth area, playing 66 games that will be about more than just wins and losses. They’ll be playing for something bigger: a legacy. And for 29 players — one from each team — a $1,000 scholarship will be more than a reward; it will be a bridge to their future, a nod to the relentless work ethic and humility that defined Drew Medford himself.
Since its inception in 2017, the tournament has raised and awarded an astonishing $189,000 in scholarships, fueled by the generosity of sponsors, families, and a community that refuses to let Medford’s story fade. The scholarship recipients, chosen by their teams, are selected not just for their talent on the field but for embodying the qualities that made Medford special: drive, leadership, and a heart for others.
The highlight of the weekend arrives on Saturday, March 8, as Fort Worth rivals Arlington Heights and Paschal face off under the lights at Arlington Heights at 7 p.m. Before the first pitch, at 6:30 p.m., the scholarship honorees will stand together on the field, a living tribute to the young man whose name has come to mean so much more than a stat line.

The tournament, now a staple in the Texas high school baseball landscape, has grown far beyond its original six-team field. This year’s host schools — Paschal, Arlington Heights, Aledo, Birdville, Boswell, Cleburne, Country Day, and South Grand Prairie — will welcome a deep lineup of competitors from across the state and even beyond, with Greenbrier, Arkansas, making the trip to be part of something special.
Medford, a Paschal standout, was a district MVP, an all-state selection, and an honorable mention All-American. He was bound for TCU when an automobile accident in August 2016 took his life. But from tragedy, his family and friends built something enduring: a tournament that isn’t just about baseball but about character, about lifting others up, about carrying the torch forward.
The DMMT officially kicks off Wednesday, March 5, with a 6 p.m. welcome dinner at Paschal High School, where Medford’s friends and teammates will share stories, laugh, remember, and inspire the next generation of ballplayers.
It’s baseball, sure. But it’s also life. And in Fort Worth, the spirit of Drew Medford lives on in every pitch, every swing, and every scholarship handed out in his name.
