Jim Schlossnagle
The Jim Schlossnagle era has come to a close for TCU Baseball.
On Wednesday, Texas A&M announced that Schlossnagle has been named head coach of the Aggies baseball team.
"I am extremely excited to get things started in Aggieland, and I am humbled by this incredible opportunity," Schlossnagle said in a statement. "With the resources and facilities available at this world-class university, the foundation is here to win championships and make the 12th Man a regular visitor to Omaha."
Schlossnagle — or "Schloss" as he was affectionately called at TCU — will no doubt be missed in Fort Worth. During his 18 seasons at TCU, he became the school's all-time winningest coach with a 734-346 (.680) record, guiding the Horned Frogs to 15 NCAA tournaments (including nine consecutive from 2004 – 2012), seven regional titles, and five College World Series in Omaha. He was also with the Frogs through three conference changes (Conference USA, Mountain West, and the Big 12), leading the team to three Big 12 regular-season titles (2015, 2017, and 2021) and three tournament championships (2014, 2016, and 2021).
The two-time national coach of the year leaves TCU after the team took a loss to Oregon State over the weekend during the NCAA Regional, ending the Frogs' season and chances at another trip to Omaha.
In a statement, TCU's director of intercollegiate athletics Jeremiah Donati said, "We are incredibly appreciative of the tremendous efforts and contributions from Coach Jim Schlossnagle over the course of his 18-year tenure here at TCU. He has helped elevate the profile of our baseball program to unprecedented heights, and we have been fortunate to experience a tremendous amount of success under his leadership. We thank him for his devotion to TCU and sincerely wish him and his family the best going forward."
A&M director of athletics Ross Bjork called Schlossnagle's hiring a "grand slam" for the Aggies, saying, "When we started our coaching search, we made sure we covered all of our bases within Texas and across the country by reaching far and wide to find the right fit for Texas A&M baseball. As our search progressed, it became abundantly clear that Jim Schlossnagle had the experience, recruiting prowess, player development background, and baseball knowledge to deliver a championship-caliber program for Aggie baseball."
TCU will now begin a national search for its next head baseball coach, Donati said.
