They showed up in borrowed cleats, oversized jerseys, and the kind of nervous excitement that only comes with meeting a hero. Some had never been on turf like this. Some had never left their neighborhood. But when Dallas Cowboys star quarterback Dak Prescott jogged onto the field at Ulete in Southlake this week, 50 kids from the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Tarrant County felt like they’d just been drafted.
This was “ProCamp with Dak Prescott,” a two-day youth football clinic where Prescott traded stadium lights for sunshine and taught more than just footwork. With help from Tom Thumb, Albertsons, Procter & Gamble, and ProCamps®, the event gifted 50 no-cost spots to Boys & Girls Club members — a gesture that turned a summer camp into something closer to a turning point.
Prescott, who’s as comfortable offering words of encouragement as he is throwing touchdown passes, moved effortlessly between drills, calling out tips, bumping fists, and kneeling to meet kids at eye level.
For Prescott, this isn’t just an offseason PR tour. It’s personal. He has long been outspoken about mental health, resilience, and giving back — values that align squarely with the mission of the Boys & Girls Clubs.
“Tom Thumb and Albertsons stores have had a long-time partnership with Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Tarrant County,” said Christy Lara, director of Public Relations. “Their ongoing work with students and families is fueling the future in our shared communities, and we are proud to continue to work with their organization.”
Founded nearly a century ago, the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Tarrant County is now the largest Boys & Girls Club in the state of Texas, serving more than 76,000 young people across 26 community-based sites in Tarrant and Denton counties. The organization’s reach spans well beyond sports — its programming includes after-school tutoring, summer camps, pre-college support, gang intervention, mental health services, music and arts initiatives, and workforce readiness.
That broad mission makes partnerships like this one especially meaningful.
Daphne Barlow, CEO and president of BGCGTC says, “At Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Tarrant County, we see firsthand how kids and teens thrive when they’re given support, encouragement, and opportunities to lead.”
