It seems like the sports naysayers regarding TCU sports are eating a little bit of crow again. Just like the Sonny Dykes led TCU Football team of 2022, TCU’s baseball team seemed to be an unlikely choice to move forward into the post-season at first glance. In fact, they sat sixth in the Big 12 standings and were dealing with a stretch of eight losses in 10 games. It seemed that TCU was dead to rights with their 2023 season ending on a low.
Now, the Big 12 Tournament champions have won 15 of their last 16 games – including nine straight – upending Arkansas in their own Regional. This means only two wins stand between TCU and their sixth College World Series appearance.
What stands in the Horned Frog’s way is the number 14-ranked Indiana State Sycamores. Indiana State (45-15) put together an incredible season and was named regional host for the first time in program history.
However, due to a scheduling conflict, Indiana State will not be able to host the series at Terre Haute. This is in part due to Indiana State's athletic facilities prepping for the upcoming Indiana Special Olympics, held at the aforementioned Terre Haute.
"Due to prior commitments, accommodations not available, and the community preparing to welcome Indiana Special Olympics for the 51st year, we are unable to host the NCAA Super Regionals in the coming week,” a release from the Indiana State Athletics Twitter page stated. Instead, the NCAA awarded TCU with the host bid.
TCU hosts the Indiana State Sycamores in the Fort Worth Regional beginning Friday, June 9. Games will be broadcast on ESPN networks, with Game 1 kicking off at 4:00 p.m. CT and Game 2 on Saturday at 5:00 p.m. CT. Game 3 (if necessary): TBA. All games will be played at Charlie and Marie Lupton Stadium and broadcast on the radio at 88.7 FM KTCU. All session and general admission tickets are currently sold out.
