It's been a frightening and stressful day for students, faculty, and their families at Arlington's Timberview High School, reeling after a shooting took place Wednesday morning, injuring four people.
The incident occurred around 9:15 a.m., when the Arlington Police Department responded to a call about a shooting on the school's second floor. The suspect has since turned himself in, identified as 18-year-old Timothy George Simpkins — a student at Timberview, who got into a fight with another student and subsequently opened fire. Four victims were injured, with one in critical condition.
Simpkins is currently in custody and charged with three counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. According to the Arlington Police Department, many students have been evacuated and are now safe.
Fort Worth mayor Mattie Parker took to Twitter this afternoon to issue the following statement, acknowledging the incident while also thanking first responders.
