Some strange urge drives people all over Tarrant County to drape lights - from hundreds to millions - on buildings and trees during the Christmas season. That gives the rest of us the also strange urge to prowl the neighborhoods in search of the most spectacular of the displays.
We have a new idea for you this year. Turns out that Epic Helicopters, LLC also offers Christmas light tours. It is the most popular tour offering of the year, says owner Brian Dunaway. The tours depart from Fort Worth's Meacham Airport and Addison Airport.
Tours for three passengers range from $379 for 15 to 20 minutes for the Santa's Express Shuttle to $459 for the 40-minute Santa's Sleigh Ride to $579 for the 50- to 60-minute Santa's Silver Bullet. Both of the last two include the Interlochen neighborhood, and the Silver Bullet includes Grand Prairie Lights, home to 4 million lights and 600 individual light displays. At 700 acres, it is the largest concentration of holiday lights in the Metroplex. Tours are offered through Jan. 1 and start at 6 p.m. Check the Web site for details, purchase and reservations: epichelicopters.com.
