On Tuesday, Charles Schwab unveiled the 2025 Charles Schwab Challenge Champion’s Prize: a fully restored 1992 Schwab Defender. The one-of-a-kind vehicle will be awarded to the winner along with $1.7 million in prize money.
The date — 1992 — commemorates Charles Schwab launching Mutual Fund OneSource®, a platform that simplified mutual fund investing and expanded access for individual investors.
In honoring that milestone, the firm worked with Winslow Bent, founder of Legacy Classic Trucks, to fully restore the 1992 Schwab Defender, commemorating over 30 years since the launch of Mutual Fund OneSource and its innovation in the investing industry.

Key features of the 1992 Defender include:

The vehicle will be awarded alongside Colonial’s Leonard Trophy and the iconic Scottish Royal Tartan Plaid jacket, uniting classic tournament traditions with Schwab’s spirit of innovation and empowerment.
In addition to his $1.6 million champions check, Visa card, Venmo transaction, or however they’re paying PGA Tour champions these days, last year’s Schwab Colonial champion Davis Riley drove off with a fully restored, modernized, and blinged-out 1975 Schwab Corvette Stingray.
The prize, the Schwab people said then, was an homage to 1975, the year that “helped reshape Wall Street” and made investing more accessible to everyone. The moment of democratization is remembered as “May Day.”
That was when regulated stock trading commissions came to an end. Chuck Schwab, they reminded, opened the doors to investing wider for individuals by reducing commissions, making investing more accessible.

In addition to Lietzke and Pavin, nine others have won twice here — Julius Boros, Billy Casper, Al Geiberger, Lee Trevino, Ben Crenshaw, Nick Price, Kenny Perry, Phil Mickelson, and Zach Johnson.
No one has won more times at Colonial than Hogan, who put on plaid five times — 1946, ’47, ’52, ’53, and ’59.
