The Sundance Square Christmas tree went up in the plaza on Nov. 17.
While it might not feel a lot like Christmas in this 80-degree weather, it's at least beginning to look a lot like Christmas in downtown Fort Worth.
The Sundance Square Christmas tree has officially gone up in the plaza (which, by the way, is open for folks to stroll and stop a while at café tables). Crews arrived Wednesday to set up the 55-foot Norway spruce, hauled to Fort Worth all the way from Michigan.
There won't be a traditional lighting ceremony as in year's past — instead, the tree will be decorated and lit prior to the GM Financial Parade of Lights taking place Sunday at 6 p.m., according to Sundance Square spokesperson Bryan Eppstein. Sundance Square recently brought together over 55 local artists — like Ariel Davis, CHoKe, Daniel Blagg, and Katie Murray to name a few — to paint oversized ornaments for the tree.
Santa Claus won't be visiting the plaza for photos this year "due to the Tarrant County Public Health Department’s assessment of local COVID-19 transmission still being at the high and substantial levels over the past 30 days," according to the City of Fort Worth. The plaza will, however, host live holiday music and entertainment on the stage, weather permitting.
The tree will stay up through Epiphany on Jan. 6.
