Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation announced on Tuesday that it would host the Greater Fort Worth More Than Pink Walk at The Shops of Clearfork on Oct. 1.
This will be the first in-person walk since 2019.
“We are excited to welcome Walk participants back in person this year and are grateful for the opportunity to provide a community for anyone who breast cancer has impacted,” says Komen Greater Fort Worth executive director Joy Rich in a statement. “Whether you are in treatment, celebrating survivorship, or a family member, friend, or loved one, we hope you will join us in October and be part of our collective efforts to end breast cancer forever.”
Joan Katz, a member of the Komen Leadership Council, knows firsthand about the life-changing impact Komen has had on our community and hearing those words, “you have breast cancer.”
This summer marks 40 years as a cancer survivor for Katz. Diagnosed in 1982, the same summer of Komen’s founding, Katz had Komen holding her hand through every step of her journey.
“Oct. 1 is also the beginning of Breast Cancer Awareness Month and the return of the in-person More Than Pink Walk,” Katz says. “We welcome all the members of our breast cancer community, honoring friends, family, and anyone impacted by the disease. The More Than Pink Walk is about making strides toward curing breast cancer. The funds raised through registrations and sponsorships will give more individuals impacted by the disease access to resources and the support they need now."
The Power of ONE Week — a week’s worth of events to honor those impacted by breast cancer — will precede the five mile walk, starting on Sept. 26. A schedule of in-person and virtual events and additional details will be coming soon.
The More Than Pink event will start at 7 a.m. on Oct. 1.
