The Women's Center of Tarrant County
Fort Worth Mayor Betsy Price dons a teal "Victory Over Violence – Hope Starts Here" T-shirt in support of The Women's Center.
April is Child Abuse Prevention Month and Sexual Assault Awareness Month, and The Women’s Center of Tarrant County is doing its part by selling teal T-shirts through its Victory Over Violence – Hope Starts Here campaign — an initiative taking place in lieu of the organization's annual Victory Over Violence Walk/Run, canceled this year due to COVID-19.
The nonprofit organization will start the campaign on April 6, when The Women's Center will address the Tarrant County Commissioners Court and receive a proclamation declaring that day “Turn Tarrant Teal Day." Those who purchase their teal T-shirts are also encouraged to don them on April 28, which is also known as Denim Day, when people are encouraged to wear jeans to raise awareness for rape and sexual assault.
Local universities including TCU, the University of Texas Arlington, Tarrant County College, and UNT Health Science Center have also partnered with the organization. On-campus events will take place to bring awareness to students, staff, and the surrounding community. One event at UTA, for example, is Teal Talk Tuesdays, also taking place April 6.
The Women’s Center, which is headquartered in Fort Worth, provides survivors the tools they need in order to heal from the effects of violence. With the funds raised from the teal T-shirt purchases and donations, The Women’s Center plans to continue providing help to more than 100,000 women, men, and children in the Rape Crisis and Victim Services Program.
