Tim Love, the serial Fort Worth restaurateur, is back at it, this time as a seeming populist, with his newest concept — “a country club for the people.”
Stewart’s Croquet & Cocktails, a refined cocktail bar and croquet club designed to capture the charm of an English country club — without the exclusivity of private membership — is set to open this spring in the River District at 4424 White Settlement Road.
Remaining faithful to naming his concepts after family members, Stewart’s is an homage to Love’s father, Stewart Love, and family gatherings in Cookeville, Tennessee, where, according to Love, he first played croquet on his father’s farm.
“I’m thrilled to honor my dad with this special spot,” said Love in a statement. “Stewart’s is more than a cocktail bar with good food — it’s a full experience. This is the place I want to be at 3 p.m., having a cocktail and a light bite before dinner, unwinding from the day.
“It’s a country club for the people — a place where anyone can come together and enjoy life’s simple pleasures without the usual barriers. In a world where dining is always evolving, Stewart’s offers something more: an oasis where you can relax, have fun, and share great times with friends in a setting that’s both sophisticated and laid-back.”
The 1,100-square-foot building will undergo a full renovation, offering 28 indoor seats. An outdoor, 15,000-square-foot lawn will be available for socializing, croquet, of course, and special events.
The menu will feature “sophisticated” takes on country club classics, including Gulf shrimp cocktail, lobster rolls, and Croque Monsieur, layered with smoked ham, nutty gruyère, and velvety mornay sauce, finished to a golden crisp on house-made tomato brioche.
Love is the chef and owner of Love Management Inc., whose concepts include Lonesome Dove Western Bistro in Fort Worth, Austin, and Knoxville, Tennessee, Woodshed Smokehouse, Love Shack (Fort Worth and DFW Airport), Queenie's Steakhouse in Denton, White Elephant Saloon in the Stockyards, Gemelle, Atico, Hotel Otto, and Paloma Suerte, Caterina’s, and Tannahill’s Tavern & Music Hall in the Stockyards.
Stewart’s will be situated next to Hotel Otto, Fort Worth’s first micro-resort hotel, and Gemelle, his Italian-inspired restaurant known for its fresh pasta, pizzas, and lush outdoor garden.
In 2025, Love is set to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the iconic Lonesome Dove in the Fort Worth Historic Stockyards.
