The Associated Press (AP) announces Texas Christian University's (TCU) Gary Patterson as their choice for coach of the year in the Big 12 Conference. Patterson joins Nick Saban as the only two-time winners. Saban was coach of the year in 2003 when he was with LSU and in 2008 at Alabama, while Patterson won coach of the year in 2009 and 2014.
After only three seasons in the conference, TCU (11-1) is a co-champion of the Big 12, sharing the title with Baylor. Patterson received 17 out of 20 votes in the ballot by AP media members who regularly cover the Big 12 conference.
Patterson is a defensive-minded coach who has a 131-45 record in 14 seasons with TCU. Patterson is the fifth-longest tenured head coach in the nation and has won 10 National Coach of the Year honors while at TCU. He has also received the 2014 Eddie Robinson Award and was recognized as the Coach of the Year by the Walter Camp Football Foundation, ESPN/Home Depot, CBSSports.com and Scout.com to name a few.
TCU will play Ole Miss on Dec. 31 in the Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl in Atlanta. Go frogs!
