It's not every day you see a criticism turn into a worthy cause.
A writer for D's Sidedish blog wrote a negative review of Lakewood Brewing Company’s IPA called the Hopochondria. The reviewer said, “This tastes like you stole a tube sock from a hobo and strained this beer through it.”
Lakewood Brewing Co. respects the media's right to have an opinion. In this case, they reacted a little differently than expected.
Lakewood posted on its Facebook page saying, “We here at LBC believe in the inclusiveness of all people from every walk of life. With that in mind, we welcome all praise and criticism equally to drive us to continue producing new and fun beers while maintaining the high level of quality our fans expect. Where we draw the line is when a magazine decides to use our brands to make less than tactful remarks including satirizing violence against those that are much less fortunate than their readership or staff.”
Lakewood Brewing Co. responded appropriately by turning those negative words into positive actions by donating 100 percent of the taproom sales profit of the Hopochondria to supply The Stewpot with new socks. The Stewpot offers a safe haven and basic survival needs for the homeless and at-risk individuals of Dallas.
D Magazine responded as well by generously donating $500 to The Stewpot.
Lakewood delivered the socks to The Stewpot on Feb. 4.
