What you are about to read is a true story. The names of the people mentioned in this blog have been protected, only because I don't know what their names are. Darn it.
So the other night, I was having dinner with my children at the food court inside the Hulen Mall. I've always known the mall is a great place for people watching but I scored BIG this evening with the ultimate people watching story. There weren't too many people around, so this one particular gentleman did NOT go unnoticed by myself or anyone else in the food court that night. As I was sitting there, the gentleman, easily in his 80's, strolled by alone, with a Shiner Bock beer bottle in his hand taking a sip or two as he found a seat. I just smiled and watched everyone smile at this guy and even chuckle a little. He sat down behind us and shortly afterwards, his wife joined him with a tray full of Chick-fil-A. I mean really, chicken and beer, sounds like a winner to me!
I don't know the full set of mall rules but I'm pretty sure beer isn't allowed. But who is really going to go up to an old man, just sitting there enjoying a peaceful meal with his wife, and tell him to throw away his beer? I was secretly glad nobody did. So he broke the rules. I'm willing to bet this guy has lived a long hard life and don't we all deserve to break the rules just a little bit at the age?
So Shiner Bock beer drinking old man at the mall, I propose this toast to you. Live long, be happy and next time, I'll take a Shiner Blonde. Meet you at the food court friend!
