With roots in farming and veterinary care, this Minnesota-based company sets new standards in affordable, effective animal health products.

Matt Klotz knows firsthand that caring for horses is more than just a responsibility—it takes a whole lot of heart and hard decisions. 

The owner of a horse—a donkey and eight rescue dogs, too—Klotz understands that horses can be both companions and working animals, but regardless, their health is non-negotiable. 

Klotz, who received his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from Oklahoma State University in 1996, has worked as an equine veterinarian for the last 29 years. For 18 of those years, he worked in private practice, primarily specializing in performance horse medicine with quarterhorse and thoroughbred race horses as his clients. 

After nearly two decades working sun-up to sun-down in the field, Klotz felt the pull to become an advocate for equine health on a larger scale. 

Klotz is now the equine technical services veterinarian for Aurora Pharmaceuticals Inc. where he’s been the resident clinical expert on the company’s equine products since 2017. In his role, he’s the direct link between local veterinarians and the small Minnesota-based pharmaceutical company, providing education and feedback from the field to the founder and ensuring products meet the needs of both horses and horse owners.

“When I see something in the field that needs to be fixed, I make one phone call to the owner of the company, and we get a decision made and it’s handled,” Klotz said.
