Jubilee Theatre
As Jubilee Theatre steps into its 44th season, we proudly continue our journey through "Reflective, Rooted, Reunited" under the leadership of newly appointed Managing Director Janaé Willis-Beard, now in her second season with Jubilee and Artistic Director D. Wambui Richardson, who is marking his seventh season. This dynamic duo is dedicated to returning Jubilee Theatre to its roots while developing a solid educational and community impact presence. Their vision for this season, aptly named "Rooted, Anchored in Heritage, Soaring with Creativity," celebrates resilience, culture, and creativity—showcasing diverse voices and stories that resonate deeply with our community.
Season 44 Lineup
This season, we are thrilled to present an exciting and rich tapestry of productions that delve into the African American experience, each bringing unique narratives to life on stage:
"Home" by Samm Art Williams
Directed by Kris Black Jasper
Our season opener, "Home," is a profoundly resonant play that transports audiences to the rural South during the civil rights era, offering a poignant exploration of family, identity, and the essence of belonging. The story follows Cephus Miles, a young African American man who embarks on a journey filled with trials, tribulations, and moments of self-discovery. Cephus leaves his small hometown searching for a better life, driven by a desire to escape the limitations imposed by his environment and the turbulent social landscape of the time. Along the way, he confronts the harsh realities of life, grappling with love, loss, and the pressures that come with seeking one's place in the world.
We are also proud to announce that Kris Black Jasper, a beloved Jubilee Theatre ensemble regular who recently captivated audiences as Mother Superior in Sister Act at Bass Hall, is making her directorial debut with this production. Kriss brings a unique perspective and deep understanding of the material, infusing the story with a fresh and authentic voice. Her transition from the stage to the director's chair marks an exciting new chapter in her career and promises to make "Home" a truly unforgettable experience.
"Auntee Explains Xmas" by Rudy Eastman

Celebrate the holiday season with our beloved Founding Artistic Director Rudy Eastman's "Auntee Explains Xmas." This heartwarming family musical brings the season's magic to life as Auntee, a cherished matriarch, shares tales of Christmases past and present. With lively music and timeless traditions, this production captures the essence of what makes the holiday season so special. We're particularly excited to present this show as the closing production of Arts Fort Worth's Scott Theatre, making it a memorable celebration for audiences of all ages.
"The Movement" by Kathy D. Harrison
Directed by D. Wambui Richardson
Experience the power of unity and activism with "The Movement," an acapella musical set in the pivotal year of 1963. The story chronicles the inspiring journey of the Children's Movement, capturing the spirit of social change through stirring vocal performances and evocative storytelling. This production is a poignant reminder that when we stand together, anything is possible.
"Thunder Knocking on the Door" by Keith Glover

Prepare to be enchanted by "Thunder Knocking on the Door," a spellbinding narrative where myth and magic collide. Set against the backdrop of blues music, this tale follows the intertwined lives of two families and a mystical duel between Marvell Thunder and Jaguar Man. With its electrifying blend of music and storytelling, this production is a transcendent theatrical experience that will resonate long after the final chord fades.

Featuring iconic songs like "One Love" and "Three Little Birds," this vibrant musical will leave audiences singing and dancing long after the final curtain falls.
Looking Ahead
As we continue through Season 44, our focus extends beyond the stage to include impactful community engagement and educational initiatives. Jubilee Theatre's Producing in the Black program, a young producers program, offers a 16-week immersive fellowship for aspiring theatre professionals. This program provides hands-on experience in theatrical production and an opportunity to work closely with guest directors and designers. This program not only nurtures the next generation of theater professionals but also provides a unique opportunity for sponsors to align their brands with our commitment to education and community development.
As part of our strategic initiatives for Season 44, Jubilee Theatre has set an ambitious fundraising goal of $440,000. This goal is essential to supporting our diverse range of programs and productions that lie at the heart of our mission. Funds raised will directly contribute to initiatives like The Marian and Rudy Eastman New Work Series, which will produce three staged readings in the Summer of 2025, and Producing in the Black, our immersive young producers' program that offers aspiring theatre professionals hands-on experience in theatrical production. Additionally, our From Behind the Curtains to the Classroom educational outreach program will benefit, allowing us to bring the magic of theatre into local schools and empower students through the arts. By reaching this fundraising target, we can continue to elevate the cultural landscape of Fort Worth and ensure that Jubilee Theatre remains a vital and dynamic force in our community. We invite our supporters, partners, and new sponsors to join us in this endeavor, helping us to achieve our vision of a vibrant, inclusive, and thriving arts community.
