The Herd
They call Fort Worth “Cowtown” for a reason.
The world’s only twice-daily cattle drive, presented by the Fort Worth Herd, celebrates its 20th anniversary this week. A ceremony will take place Friday at 11:30 a.m. with a special “Driving 20 Steers for 20 Years” cattle drive and event held along East Exchange Avenue. A reception and comments will immediately follow at the Cowtown Coliseum Warm-up Pen, located at 121 E. Exchange Ave. (directly behind the historic Cowtown Coliseum).
The cattle drive has long been one of the top attractions in Texas. Over the past two decades, 9 million spectators have watched 14,148 cattle drives, and The Herd has interacted with over 17,000 students annually through tour groups and education programs. The Herd also supports 24,000 local jobs and delivers a $2.6 billion economic impact to the city.
During the 20th anniversary event, local dignitaries including Mayor Betsy Price and Fort Worth City Council members will ride on a historic wagon during the cattle drive. The reception is open to the public and will include a photo opportunity, 20th Anniversary promotional items, a logo reveal, cake cutting and special remarks from Price and Trail Boss Kristin Jaworski.
The celebration takes place during National Travel and Tourism Week, an annual spotlight by the U.S. Travel Association.
