Daired's Salon and Spa Pangea in Arlington offers services not only to women within the area, but also to men as well. The salon and spa have a range of hair treatments along with body treatments in their revitalizing salon and soothing spa. The staff at Daired's let us in on what the latest looks are in men's hairstyles, what key products men should own, along with which treatments men should be getting, in order to accomplish a clean, polished style.
What's hot in men's hairstyles:
A hairstylist at Daired's Salon and Pangea in Arlington, Evan Schmidt, said that the styles that are popular with men right now are "the older styles from the 50's and 60's. Almost like combed over to the side where the bottom is shorter than the top. Also, a lot of clipper cuts where it is real short in the back and a little longer on top with a messier style." The idea of bringing back the old and freshening it up into something slightly more modern is what Evan sees a lot of at the salon. The salon offers cuts for men starting at $40.
Must-have men's products:
When deciding which brands work best, Aveda Hair Care products as well as Kerastase products, both cover a range of hair and scalp types for most men.
Aveda differentiates men's shampoos and conditioners from women's because the brand knows that men's scalps have different needs than women's scalps.
The Aveda Men Pure-Formance™ Shampoo ($18, www.aveda.com) paired with the Aveda Men Pure-Formance™ Conditioner ($18, aveda.com) cleanses and moisturizes the hair, while also alleviating any itching or dryness of the scalp.
In order to stop thinning of the hair, Kerastase created a maintenance system with a densifying effect.
The Bain Capital Force Densifying Shampoo ($36, www.kerastase-usa.com) along with the Activateur Capital Force Densifying Spray Treatment ($32, kerastase-usa.com) creates thicker, stronger hair.
Staying above par:
While pedicures may seem out of the male comfort zone, Evan says that "pedicures are a great way for guys to keep good hygiene for their feet, especially during summer time when they are wearing flip flops all the time." At Daired's a Spa Pedicure is $35 and includes a glass of wine, beer or a soft drink. This hydrating addition to a routine may not seem manly, but it creates a more hygienic look for a season when toes are more exposed.
Waxing is an additional treatment at the spa, which is often times a necessary treatment for men's eyebrows and backs. A brow wax, which costs $25, is always a nice way to look polished by not having extra stray hairs and creating a clean look. A back and shoulder wax is priced at $60, and all other pricing lists for waxing can be found online. The waxing lasts 2-6 weeks and causes the hair to grow back finer and less dense. If it is waxed consistently pedicures and waxing are an excellent way to have a fresh look for the summer.
