The team of Brian Estridge, left, and John Denton will call its last football game tonight.
TCU’s football team will send off a great class of seniors in Saturday’s regular-season finale against Iowa State at Amon G. Carter Stadium.
They’ll also be saying goodbye to Mr. Horned Frog. Sort of.
John Denton made public on Monday what we had heard a few weeks back. He’s retiring from TCU and stepping aside from his duties as the color analyst on TCU football and basketball radio broadcasts to become the executive director of the Flying T Club.
The Flying T Club is a name, image, and likeness collective supporting TCU student-athletes. It is not associated with the university.
Denton's last day at TCU will be Jan. 4, though he will stay on as color guy through the end of the basketball season.
“Saturday will be my last home game broadcast at Amon G. Carter Stadium,” Denton told his social media network. “The Carter is such a special place for me and all of us who love the Frogs so much. Over the last 34 seasons I’ve been very fortunate to work some great games. I appreciate all your friendship and support.”
Since 2019, Denton has served as associate athletics director overseeing the Block T Association. Since arriving on campus as the executive director of the Frog Club in 2005, Denton has served in a number of roles, including director of major gifts from 2010-19.
In 34 football seasons, Denton has worked 411 games. He has been on basketball broadcasts for the past 22 years.
“I’m going to miss all your texts and emails during games and all these guys right here,” he said, turning to a picture behind him, “my TCU radio crew family.”
In all, Denton has been a part of TCU for 42 years, beginning as a student athlete with the TCU football program in the fall of 1980.
Godspeed, John Denton. See you soon.
