The Texas Rangers are getting a new ballpark and have chosen an architect for the job.
Dallas-based architecture firm HKS will lead design for the project, the Rangers announced Thursday. HKS was the architect for the Rangers' current facility, then-called The Ballpark in Arlington and now known as Globe Life Park, which opened in 1994. HKS also worked on the nearby AT&T Stadium.
The ballpark project is estimated to cost $1 billion, with the Rangers splitting the cost with the City of Arlington. The city's contribution is capped at $500 million. Back in November, Arlington voters approved the use of ballpark bonds to help pay for the development.
Construction is expected to begin later this year, and the new ballpark is expected to open for the 2020 season. The facility will be located south of Randol Mill Road, where are parking lot currently sits. Among notable features of the ballpark is a retractable roof.

The ballpark will be surrounded by the Texas Live! development, which is currently under construction.
