One of downtown Fort Worth's newest hotel developments is waiting for a go-signal from the City of Fort Worth.
Irving-based hotel developer Whitestone Hospitality is planning to build a Hilton Garden Inn at 607 Jones St., by Mt. Gilead Baptist Church. The approximately $40 million project will be 10 stories and 162 rooms, with approximately 1,500 square feet of retail space that Whitestone Hospitality hopes to lease to a coffee shop or similar business, said company president and chief development officer DK Patel.
Other features include a restaurant, bar, fitness center, meeting space and golf simulator, as well as an outdoor pool on the fifth floor.
Construction is expected to start in 2017, with the hotel opening in 2019, Patel said.
The plans still need final approval from the city's Downtown Design Review Board (DDRB), a committee that approves the design of downtown building projects. Patel said the hotel will have some changes made to the building's exterior materials. If the DDRB approves the project, the next step will be getting a building permit and starting construction.
The DDRB is scheduled to meet Nov. 3.
