Before I tell you what I'm loving this week, I'm going to tell you something I wasn't loving a few years ago. There was a time in 2013, shortly after I moved back to Fort Worth, that I excitedly went to try the much buzzed-about Revolver Taco Lounge. Unfortunately, nary a taco made its way to my table that evening. Although my dining partner and I were immediately seated, the seat was the end of the road for service that evening. We waited, not-so-patiently, for about 20 minutes and no one ever came to the table. So we left, very hungry and even more frustrated.
Fast forward to last month when I finally forgave Revolver and decided to give it another try. Man, am I glad I did. I've since been three times…once for dinner and twice for brunch. Fort Worthians have been keen to the delicious dinner options for going on five years now, but the brunch is a relatively new addition. After sister restaurant Campestra Chula Vista closed in January (quite possibly one of the saddest days in my existence, please somebody do something with that space), the authentic Mexican brunch was moved to Revolver.
The all-you-can-eat Mercado-style breakfast buffet is pretty simple. Proceed to buffet. Grab tacos. Fill tacos with whatever the cooks have put in pots. Don't ask questions. Pay $12 when you leave. Tip the cooks on your way out (believe me you'll want to). Go home and lay down. The brunch, served from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sundays also comes with café de olla (traditional Mexican coffee) and agua fresca (fresh water with fruit).
And you know what else comes with this incredibly reasonable price tag? Really good service. The staff has been incredibly attentive each time I have been back. Not just attentive. Kind. Efficient. Fast.
So, that's what I'm loving this week. Food and redemption. The all you can eat kind.
