After overcoming her own struggles, her desire grew to help struggling couples and families navigate their own lives.
Come as you are. That’s the theme at Beth Lewis Therapy Group. Beth Lewis, owner, and founder of Beth Lewis Therapy Group is a resilient advocate for self-care as an involved part of quality therapy sessions. Beth shares a little about her background, the programs she has written to facilitate quality therapy within each session offered at BLTG, and her passion for breaking the stigma around therapy by promoting therapy as the healthy, smart thing it is with the small, but mighty staff at the Beth Lewis Therapy Group.
Beth’s inspiration to start her own practice came from a very personal place. After her childhood family had fallen apart through the divorce of her parents, and her older siblings had moved out of the home, Beth was left heartbroken as she navigated her own family’s dysfunction. After overcoming her own struggles, her desire grew to help struggling couples and families navigate their own lives.
During her years as an upcoming therapist, Beth created a method called the SHEEN Method, an acronym, for her clients to build a stronger physical self, so as to be able to better navigate the emotional self. Her belief is that to feel better, one must do better. Her approach and methods are rooted in Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy (REBT), a form of cognitive behavior therapy developed by Dr. Albert Ellis in the 1950s. Her findings resulted in the SHEEN method and can be found throughout her therapy sessions, her instruction with her staff and interns, and within her own life focused on personal growth.
S – Sleep
Getting enough sleep is vital to one’s overall well-being. When asleep, your body will produce and release hormones that are vital to the body’s health. These hormones that are released help to fight inflammation, and they help keep the craziness at bay.
H – Hydrate
Hydration isn’t just good for glowing skin, it’s another fundamental necessity for your physical and emotional health. Shoot to drink a gallon of water a day…yes, a gallon.
E – Exercise
Yes – endorphins. Exercise is the quickest pick-me-up on the market. These natural brain chemicals released in exercise enhance your mind’s sense of well-being. It also helps boost your metabolism and appetite.
E – Express
Whether it’s writing, knitting, jogging, or painting, it is crucial that as multi-layered humans, our emotions are able to be expressed through hobbies and talents. The goal here is to practice productive expression over destructive expression.
N – Nourish
When experiencing extreme stress or anxiety, it’s easy to lean on comfort foods and sugars. Eating a balanced and nutrition-packed, clean diet isn’t just beneficial to your waistline. Scientists have revealed that many good-mood hormones are produced and stored in the gut. It’s no wonder that nourishing your body with healthy foods can impact your overall wellness and mood.
You can learn more about the SHEEN method here. Beth believes that with these five tenets in place most days of the week (a big piece of this puzzle is to generate balance, not an all-or-nothing thinking), a stronger qualification to manage the hand dealt will appear. A more qualified ability to tame any anxiety, or any depths of depression will arrive. Even further, the SHEEN method serves as a litmus test for how you feel you deserve to be treated. Check out this video to better understand how untreated anxiety affects the brain.
During the pandemic, Beth built an online program that deals specifically with anxiety and personal growth called TheGroovyYou. TheGroovyYou is a website built to house her therapy programs that can be done outside of therapy sessions, in your own space, on your own time. TheGroovyYou, her podcast This Won't Be Done By 5, as well as the bios for herself and each of her therapists can be found on her therapy group website: BethLewisTherapy.com
The therapists at Beth Lewis Therapy Group are hired by Beth with the utmost intentionality.
The client-therapist relationship is part of the personal growth process. The therapists at Beth Lewis Therapy Group are hired by Beth with the utmost intentionality. “The group that I have now is so excellent. I've had to learn the art of smart hiring…and now, I couldn’t be more proud,” Beth says. While therapists may be regulated through their education and board testing, not all therapists take the same approach in their counseling. Beth has made it a priority to hire qualified therapists who exhibit compassion first, and education, a must-have second. “I seek therapists who are willing to take that education and put it in their back pocket. In my group, my therapists are taught to tip it all over, blow it all up, and think outside of the box. I want them to think creatively and use their heart and soul and own life experiences. Then when applicable, they can pull from that back pocket education every now and then.” Having a trusted and confidential source to lean on in trying and growing times is key to getting the most out of your relationship. Beth understands that it can be daunting to get vulnerable for the first time. “It can be nerve-racking to meet a new therapist and speak about personal things. I would encourage anyone seeking that first session to make that appointment and come to our waiting room and trust what we have built,” Beth says. “We are all humans and deserve to experience emotional care and support. Together, we've got this.” Beth Lewis Therapy Group wants to help get you back on your feet, or to stay on your feet, or to create a ground that allows you to jump high so that you can live a fulfilled, cool, balanced life.
