If you look up to the skies around Fort Worth's Cultural District, you will often see a pair of red-tailed hawks soaring high above. I had the idea to do a painting of the Amon Carter Museum from the perspective of these birds. In order to experience their view from above, I recruited the help of my niece's husband, Kelly Cone, an architect who worked on the Renzo Piano Kimbell addition. He graciously climbed the steps to the top of the crane — over 100 feet high! — and photographed the “bird's eye view” for me. Working from a combination of these photos and other reference material I composed this painting titled, “Cultural District Hawks”.
“Cultural District Hawks”
This is Kelly, the architect who works for Beck and without whom I couldn't have done the painting!
And here's a time-lapse of the painting in progress.
