This month has been a drama within itself for “Yellowstone” fans who are still reeling from the news that the popular show will definitely end in its fifth season.
But just like a real-life Taylor Sheridan drama, The Hollywood Reporter recently verified that “Yellowstone’s” third spin-off “1923” will also end after it drops its second season which is set to stream on Paramount in late 2023 or early 2024.
The prequel series follows Jacob (Harrison Ford) and Cara Dutton's (Helen Mirren) effort to protect the Yellowstone ranch from desperate ranchers and wealthy businessmen who wish to seize control and exploit the expansive land.
Sound familiar?
In all honesty ‘1923’ was positioned as a two-season show when it first premiered. But in this current age of constant extensions and reboots, it wasn't clear if the spinoff could continue beyond its initial story. After speaking with The Hollywood Reporter on a cast panel, Brandon Sklenar, who plays Spencer Dutton, said “1923” will definitely end with season 2.
Sklenar told the press that the series is "limited," closing the door on any questions regarding the show's continuation. "No, no, it's bookend,” Sklenar said. “It's still limited, but I think of it as one piece — there’s just a split in the middle, but it’s all one piece. It will conclude."
But there’s a silver lining to every cloud. The good news for ‘Yellowstone’ fans will come in the form of two spin-offs, one of which is already in production in and around the Fort Worth area. The “Lawmen: Bass Reeves”, a spinoff of another “Yellowstone” spin-off “1883” will star actor David Oyelowo as the legendary lawman. “Yellowstone” is also set to begin a present-day spinoff titled 6666 focused on criminal-turned-ranch hand Jimmy Hurdstrom (Jefferson White) and his time at the Four Sixes ranch.
