In true Fort Worth fashion, the show, or in this case, the Stock Show and Rodeo’s All-Western Parade, must go on.
Many Stock Show fans may have been wondering if the parade would take place at all, given the recent explosion that occurred at the Sandman Signature Fort Worth Hotel Monday, which rests in the middle of what was the planned parade route. Despite all of this, arrangements have been made to continue with the parade with a slight change in the route’s direction.
The new route for this parade, which will take place on January 13th at 11 a.m., will begin at its usual locale at Main and Weatherford streets south of the Tarrant County Courthouse. The parade will continue south to the Convention Center, take a left turn at Nineth Street and then a left on Commerce Street, which will continue north to Weatherford Street. Reserved seating for the parade will remain on Sundance Square ($25) and at the Convention Center ($15).
This year’s All-Western parade is anticipated to break all previous records with an estimated 3,000 horses set to march in downtown Fort Worth. To top this off, this year’s parade will also pay tribute to the men and women in various law enforcement agencies from all over Texas. This homage to law enforcement will include stagecoaches, the TCU marching band, and the Fort Worth Police Department’s mounted unit.
The aforementioned explosion occurred at the Sandman Signature Fort Worth Hotel on January 8th around 3:30 p.m. A gas leak is still being considered the culprit of the explosion that left significant damage on the first floor, basement, and subbasement levels of this historic Fort Worth structure.
A total of 21 people were reported injured in the explosion, which blew a hole in the southwest side of the hotel. Post explosion, fifteen people were transported to area hospitals with one reportedly in critical condition. Two others were reported to be in serious condition when they were transported to hospitals on Monday. The cause of the explosion is still under investigation.
