An ‘1883’ spin-off prequel series directed by Taylor Sheridan is set to begin filming in the Fort Worth, Glen Rose, and Weatherford areas near the end of January.
The spin-off called ‘1883: The Bass Reeves Story’ will be the story of Bass Reeves, the first black deputy U.S. marshal west of the Mississippi River. This limited series stars Emmy-nominated David Oyelowo (Selma) as Reeves, a legendary lawman of the Wild West.
Reeves was considered the greatest frontier hero in American history; a press release states. If that’s not kudos enough, he was also believed to be the inspiration for The Lone Ranger. Reeves worked in the post-Reconstruction era as a federal peace officer in the Indian Territory, capturing over 3,000 of the most dangerous criminals without ever being wounded.
Executive producers for this limited series include Sheridan, Oyelowo, his wife Jessica Oyelowo, David Permut, David C. Glasser, Ron Burkle, and Bob Yari.
Talent company Legacy Casting announced last week that casting is underway for Union and Confederate soldiers with fittings happening in the next two weeks. Filming is set to happen on the last week in January.
Legacy Casting is looking for local talent near Fort Worth, Glen Rose and Weatherford ages 16-50. Pay is $150 per day for 12 days. For more information on how to apply go to [email protected].
