Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show
Edd E. Bivin
Fort Worth resident Edd E. Bivin knows a thing or two about canines. He'll be among the judges at the 144th Annual Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show in New York City, according to a news release.
His twenty-third judging assignment ties the record for most assignments by a judge at Westminster.
Bivin will officiate over several breeds during the daytime competition held at Pier 94 from Feb. 9-11. On Monday, he’ll judge Brussels Griffons, Chihuahuas, Papillons, Silky Terriers and Yorkshire Terriers. On Tuesday, he’ll judge English Cocker Spaniels, English Springer Spaniels, Boerboels, Bullmastiffs, Mastiffs and Rottweilers.
“Bivin acquired his first purebred dog, a Pomeranian, at 12-years-old,” the release from Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show says. “She became the foundation of a breeding program that led to his further breeding and exhibiting of top-winning Pomeranians, including a multi-national specialty winner.”
Bivin got his start judging as a 15-year-old, being assigned toy dogs at match shows. He was approved by AKC to judge Pomeranians in 1961. In 2015, he received the AKC Lifetime Achievement Award in Conformation.
He and his wife Irene enjoyed the breeding and exhibiting of Doberman Pinschers and Dachshunds during her lifetime.
