FWSSR
The Fort Worth Stock Show & Rodeo (FWSSR) and Professional Bull Riders (PBR) are joining forces to bring two high-energy Western sports events to Dickies Arena in January 2025. The lineup includes PBR’s Last Cowboy Standing on Jan. 21-22 and the inaugural Kid Rock's Rock N Rodeo Qualifier on Jan. 23, event organizers announced Thursday.
“Fan excitement for rodeo continues to grow, and the Fort Worth Stock Show & Rodeo is always looking for ways to elevate the sport,” said FWSSR general manager Matt Carter. “Joining forces with PBR is a perfect match, giving fans tremendous value for their ticket purchase.”
Both events represent a collaboration between FWSSR, one of the most respected rodeo organizations, and PBR, which brings cutting-edge innovation to Western sports.
Replacing the traditional Bulls’ Night Out, Last Cowboy Standing will feature 40 of the world’s top bull riders in a high-stakes, ride-to-advance competition. The two-night event offers a $100,000 purse, with $50,000 awarded to the winner.
The event begins on Jan. 21, with all riders attempting one bull. The top 25 riders advance to Round 2 on Jan. 22, followed by progressive elimination through three more rounds. The final round, featuring at least two competitors, will determine the champion based on the top score.
On Jan. 23, the inaugural Kid Rock's Rock N Rodeo Qualifier will introduce a reimagined team-based rodeo format. Five teams of rodeo all-stars, coached by Western legends, will compete for their share of a $100,000 purse and seeding in the main event at AT&T Stadium in Arlington on May 16.
The competition includes barrel racing, steer wrestling, bareback riding, tie-down roping, saddle bronc riding, breakaway roping, and team roping. Combined scores and times will determine the overall team champion and discipline seeds for the May event.
The Qualifier replaces the Texas Champions Challenge, a bracket-style competition traditionally held early in FWSSR’s 23-day run.
This collaboration marks a milestone for PBR, which held its first event in 1993 at Fort Worth’s Cowtown Coliseum. Now headquartered in Fort Worth, PBR has grown into a global phenomenon, hosting events worldwide, including at Dickies Arena and AT&T Stadium.
The FWSSR runs from Jan. 17 to Feb. 8, 2025, offering rodeo, livestock and horse shows, live music, shopping, and more. For tickets and additional details, visit fwssr.com. The FWSSR draws more than 1.2 million visitors annually, offering scholarships, auctions, and a range of Western-themed activities.
PBR hosts over 200 events annually, including its premier Unleash the Beast tour and international circuits. For more information, visit pbr.com.
Tickets for the original Bulls’ Night Out and Texas Champions Challenge remain valid for the updated events.
“The Fort Worth Stock Show & Rodeo is one of the most iconic and respected events in Western sports,” said PBR CEO and commissioner Sean Gleason in a statement. “We’re thrilled to bring the Last Cowboy Standing and debut Kid Rock’s Rock N Rodeo Qualifier to this legendary event.”
