Loews Hotels & Co on Wednesday marked the “topping off” of the $550 million Loews Arlington Hotel and Convention Center and announced the new signature restaurant for its hospitality destination, Soy Cowboy, a Pan-Asian concept of Houston-based Berg Hospitality.
Topping off is a tradition among construction workers that commemorates the completion of the building’s structure as the final steel beam is placed.
The hotel, designed by HKS architects, is scheduled to open in early 2024. Looney & Associates are the interior designer, and JE Dunn is the general contractor. Con-Real, an Arlington company, is involved in the construction, officials say.
“Arlington, Texas, is already one of the premier sports and entertainment destinations in the United States, and we anticipate once Loews Arlington opens, the city will also become a leading destination for meetings and events,” says Loews Hotels Chairman and CEO Jonathan Tisch in a statement.
Also in attendance were Arlington Mayor Jim Ross, as well a members of the Arlington City Council; Ray Davis, managing partner and majority owner of the Texas Rangers Ray Davis; and Benjamin Berg, founder and CEO of Berg Hospitality.
Berg Hospitality owns and operates eight restaurant concepts in Houston and Fort Worth, including B&B Butchers & Restaurant Fort Worth’s Clear Fork, with plans to open 10 more between now and 2024.
According to a press release, Soy Cowboy, Berg’s first Pan-Asian concept, will be an upscale Pan-Asian concept, “transporting guests on an adventurous tour through the flavors of China, Korea, Vietnam, Thailand, Japan and more.”
“Berg Hospitality has worked across Texas to create unique upscale dining offerings for nearly a decade, making them the ideal partner to develop, own, and manage our new signature restaurant inside the Loews Arlington Hotel,” says Alex Tisch, president of Loews Hotels & Co., adding that Soy Cowboy “will redefine the culinary scene” in Arlington’s entertainment district.
Loews Arlington Hotel and Convention Center is part of phase two of the development of Arlington's Entertainment District. It’s a public-private partnership with the city of Arlington, Loews Hotels, the Texas Rangers, and the Cordish Companies.
Situated between Globe Life Field and AT&T Stadium, Loews Arlington Hotel and Convention Center will be accessible to the 300-room Live!, another Loews property, by sky bridge. The two hotels combined offer nearly 1,200 guestrooms and more than 300,000 square feet of meeting and event space.
The Arlington Convention Center, also operated by Loews Hotels & Co, will be located within the hotel.
“The city of Arlington has been able to see firsthand what it's like to partner with Loews Hotels and innovative minds like Jon and Alex Tisch,” says Arlington Mayor Jim Ross. “They take our tourism options to the next level and create jobs for our community.”
