Mayor Betsy Price
Not long after Texas Gov. Greg Abbott announced that the state will be lifting mask and capacity mandates starting next Wednesday, Fort Worth Mayor Betsy Price issued a response, calling the move "premature."
In her statement, posted to her social media pages on Tuesday, Price asked Fort Worthians to "continue taking all of the same safety precautions recommended by the CDC, including mask-wearing, social distancing, hand washing, etc."
She also urged Abbott to "open up additional vaccine tier categories" — currently, vaccination sites are prioritizing individuals who fall under Phases 1A (front-line health care workers and residents at long-term care facilities) and 1B (people age 65 and older or people 16 and older with a health condition that increases risk of severe COVID‑19 illness).
"As the State’s directive has changed, so must our response," Price wrote. "Now, more than ever, vaccines and testing must be readily available."
