Grammy Award-winning heavy metal band Metallica, who is known for songs like “Enter Sandman,” “Master of Puppets,” and “Fade to Black,” left more than a few ringing ears in North Texas last weekend. The legendary metal band also left a $100,000 in donations at three North Texas non-profits that include the Tarrant Area Food Bank, The Farmlink Project, and the Center for Transforming Lives. TAFB, along with the other two non-profit received a donation via Metallica’s non-profit organization All Within My Hands. All Within My Hands is a non-profit, philanthropic organization created by the members and management of Metallica, dedicated to creating sustainable communities by supporting workforce education, the fight against hunger, and other critical local services.
This announcement comes a day after the legendary metal band wrapped up two shows at AT&T Stadium for their M72 World Tour this weekend.
Besides donating $35,000 in funds donated to the TAFB, the “Mighty Met’s” non-profit also helped organize an afternoon of service, as three DFW-based Metallica fan clubs that include over 30 volunteers from fan club chapters in Texas, Mexico, and even Wisconsin came together to pack over 18,000 lbs. of squash which will provide more than 16,000 meals locally.
Founded in 1982 by Fort Worth residents concerned about hunger in their community, TAFB serves one million meals weekly to people seeking food assistance and empowers communities to alleviate hunger and improve health in 13 counties in North Texas.
“We want to thank Metallica for this $35,000 gift, their ongoing support of the Tarrant Area, and for caring about people who may not know where their next meal will come, especially during these summer months across our 13-county service area,” said Julie Butner, president & CEO of Tarrant Area Food Bank in a statement. “Food banks across the state are seeing increases in need due to inflation rising costs, and we know this donation couldn’t have come at a greater time. Metallica are Hunger Heroes.”
According to Metallica’s website, All With My Hands exists to assist and enrich the lives of members of the communities who have supported the band for years and encourage participation from fans and friends. All funds raised through this non-profit donate to a cross-section of national and local charities, like TAFB, with every penny from donors going directly to Metallica’s charity partners.
Metallica is the second big-name act to donate to the TAFB this year after swinging through the Arlington area. Mega pop star Taylor Swift made an undisclosed donation to TAFB when she stopped by AT&T Stadium in March before embarking on three nights of shows.
