The Worthy Co.
The Worthy Co's new retail shop in the Near Southside is decidedly feminine, with pink tones and gold accents showcasing cute clothes and accessories.
But this isn't your average fashion boutique. The Worthy Co, founded by Melissa Ice and Sarah Bowden, is a nonprofit whose mission is to empower survivors of sex trafficking. The shop carries items made onsite by survivors of sex trafficking, along with other goods by women-owned brands, and 100% of every purchase goes back to supporting the women.
“Everything is for the women — to provide them with a space that feels welcoming, inviting, and beautiful, giving them a feeling of, ‘Wow, all of this is for me,’” Ice said in a statement.
The shop is located in a 1920s home in the Fairmount neighborhood, renovated by real estate company 6th Ave Homes. According to a news release, the storefront is the first nonprofit brick and mortar retail space in Fort Worth.
The Worthy Co is a project of parent company, The Net Fort Worth, which launched in 2012 and has since served over 1,000 survivors of sex trafficking. Before gaining employment at The Worthy Co, women and their families receive services that include trauma counseling, court support, and social engagement.
The Worthy Co is currently open at 1216 S. Lake St. from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays. Customers can also shop online via The Worthy Co's website.
