A duo of developers is looking to turn a 10-acre site just north of downtown into Fort Worth's newest travel destination.
Mitchell Eberenz and Cole Frederick, who also co-founded Fort Worth-based oil and gas company Peak Land Services, are planning to build an RV park adjacent to Delga Park off Interstate 35. They've tapped local architect 97w to design the space, which can currently fit 74 RVs (though they're working to increase capacity to 80) and has connectivity to Delga Park and the Trinity Trails.
The RV park will also include an outdoor pool and two-story clubhouse. The first floor will carry trail equipment like bikes and scooters, and also include a gym, laundry, and showers; while the second floor features amenities like a small kitchen, entertainment space, and two balconies.
Though neither Eberenz nor Frederick claim to be RV enthusiasts, they believe the business model to be viable, with RV sales trending upward as travelers seek socially distanced getaways amid the COVID-19 pandemic. According to RV rental marketplace RVshare, RV travel and rentals have seen an increase in popularity since May, with first-time renters making up about 80% of RVshare's 2020 bookings.
Eberenz and Frederick hope to ride on that momentum in 2021. They recently got the project's design approved by the City of Fort Worth's Downtown Design Review Board. The next steps are to finalize the design and obtain permits, and if all goes accordingly, the duo plans to break ground next spring.
"We hope it becomes a staple of the city that helps tie the area together and becomes another predominant place where people can go and have a good time," Frederick says.
