The accolades keep pouring in for the 12-0 TCU Horned Frogs, who are on the verge of making the College Football Playoffs for the first time in school history. (Actually, the Frogs would be the first team from Texas to make the CFP.)
First year head coach Sonny Dykes this week was unanimously selected the Chuck Neinas Big 12 Coach of the Year.
Dykes is the first head football coach in TCU and Big 12 history to be 12-0 in his first season. Furthermore, Dykes is one of only four head coaches nationally since 1996 to accomplish the feat, according to 247sports.com.
Moreover, Dykes is the only coach to win the award in his first season. Dykes and his father, the late Spike Dykes, are the only father-son duo in the Big 12 to win the award.
The news of the honor was followed shortly after TCU quarterback Max Duggan received two major honors: the Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award and the Big 12 Offensive Player of the Year.
But TCU’s distinctions don’t end there. Ten Horned Frogs were named to this year’s All Big 12 first team, twice as many as any other school in the conference.
In addition, TCU linebacker Johnny Hodges, a key transfer who joined the team this season from Navy, was voted Defensive Newcomer of the Year, and TCU wide receiver Derius Davis was voted Special Teams Player of the year.
TCU will face No. 10 Kansas State on Saturday in the Big 12 Championship Game at AT&T Stadium.
Go, Frogs!
