The fastest-growing cities in the U.S. are in the West and South, and the city where the West begins remains a leader in that growth.
Fort Worth ranked third in the country in residents added with 12,916 from 2020 to 2021, according to data released by the U.S. Census Bureau. Our brother to the south, San Antonio, added 13,626 people, the most in the U.S. from that time period. Phoenix was next with 13,224.
Despite the increase, Fort Worth slipped in the rankings of most populous cities in the country. We are now back to 13th, with 935,508. Since 2010, the city’s population has grown 25%.
Five of the most populous 15 cities in the country are in Texas, including Dallas, which lost 14,777 residents. Of the top 15 fastest growing cities, eight are in Texas, and four are in Dallas-Fort Worth: Fort Worth, Frisco, Denton, and McKinney.
Georgetown, Texas, had the largest growth rate from July 2020 to July 2021, increasing by 10.5%, a rate of growth which would double the population in less than seven years.
Georgetown was followed by Leander, Texas (10.1%); Queen Creek Town, Arizona (8.9%); Buckeye, Arizona (8.6%), and New Braunfels (8.3%).
The sixth-fastest-growing area was Fort Myers, Florida (6.8%), followed by Casa Grande, Arizona (6.2%); Maricopa, Arizona (6.1%); North Port, Florida (5.5%); Spring Hill, Tennessee (5.4%); Goodyear, Arizona (5.4%); and Port St. Lucie, Florida (5.2%).
