You'll be seeing the July edition of Fort Worth, Texas magazine in your mailboxes and in the magazine racks soon — and I think you are going to find that it is a treat.
Lots to talk about around the water cooler in this book.
Let's start with the cover story — Most Beautiful Women in Fort Worth. Readers nominated them, we picked 20 finalists and then the readers voted on who would make the final list.
Senior designer Craig Sylva and photographer Jason Kindig deserve great praise for the visual result. Don't want to tell you too much about it or the cover because I'd like it to be a surprise. That's also why I'm not posting a picture from the cover with this blog entry.
But wait, Managing Editor Jennifer Casseday-Blair wrote a story we labeled Buzz Kill about the Texas Alcohol Beverage Commission and its pattern of enforcement, which some critics think might be so heavy handed as to be unconstitutional.
One article in the Culture section of the magazine is near and dear to my heart. That's the article on an exhibit of Dead Sea Scrolls opening at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in July.
I've long been interested in Israel for multiple reasons. The Holy Land is the birthplace of my Christian faith, and I've taught Sunday School classes over the years that led me into more detailed study of my faith and of the people and land that spawned it. In addition, I wrote a major research paper in a demographics class at Baylor University on Israel and became fascinated with the country. Finally, over my years as a journalist as both a wire service writer and editor and in newspapers, the Middle East and its troubles have been a constant.
This year, I finally got to visit Israel and toured the Qumran area where the scrolls were discovered. I'll be at the exhibit — probably several times. The picture at the top of the page is of a cave at Qumran and is courtesy of the seminary.
We also take a look at four spectacular lake houses, give you a list of food festivals around the country in case you are still planning that vacation and all the other content you have come to expect from us.
Enjoy!
