TCU co-offensive coordinator Doug Meacham is leaving Fort Worth to become the offensive coordinator at Kansas, Kansas head coach David Beaty announced Thursday.
"I am thrilled to be adding someone of the caliber of Doug Meacham to our staff," Beaty said in a statement. "Doug is someone I have admired for quite some time for his creativity on the offensive side of the ball. I have had to go up against him several times and it was always a huge challenge because of his ability to direct an offense. I am incredibly thankful to have him on our staff moving forward."
Meacham spent three seasons at TCU, working alongside co-offensive coordinator Sonny Cumbie. The duo introduced a new offensive scheme during their first season in 2014, helping the Frogs finish with a 12-1 record and 42-3 blowout of Ole Miss at the Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl. TCU ranked No. 5 nationally in total offense, averaging 533 yards per game, while also ranking No. 2 nationally in scoring with 46.5 points per game.
In the following two years, however, TCU came short of matching its 2014 success. The Frogs were close in 2015, finishing 11-2 and ranking third in total offense with 562.8 yards per game. This past season, the Frogs finished 6-7 and dropped to 29th in total offense, averaging 463.2 yards per game.
Prior to TCU, Meacham served as co-offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at Houston.
“We did not want to lose Doug Meacham, but he had to do what's best for his family," said head football coach Gary Patterson. "He will always be a Horned Frog."
