The votes are in, and the Fort Worth Zoo has claimed the No. 4 spot on USA Today's 10 Best Zoos. Fort Worth was the only Texas zoo to make the cut.
USA Today had a panel of experts assemble a list of the top 20 zoos but left it up to the public to vote on which zoos were top 10 material. Voters were able to vote once a day, every day over a span of four weeks.
The Fort Worth Zoo fell behind only Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum in Tuscon, the Henry Doorly Zoo and Aquarium in Omaha, and the St. Louis Zoo.
This is not the zoo's first award for excellence. In the past, the Fort Worth Zoo was also named Best Zoo in Texas by Yahoo Travel, No. 5 zoo in the nation by USA Travel Guide and No. 1 attraction in the DFW Metroplex by Zagat. The Fort Worth Zoo is also a top 10 zoo or aquarium according to FamilyFun magazine and TripAdvisor’s Travelers’ Choice Awards.
