During the course of my somewhat charmed life, I have given many people my opinions of a variety of subjects. Some of it was good; others, well, not so much (train wreck waiting to happen.)
Conversely, I have been given many, ahem, pearls of wisdom in my formative years. Some I took, others I shook off like a bad habit. But if there's one thing that has resonated with me, it's what my grandfather told me before he died. After suffering congestive heart failure, numerous knee and heart surgeries and the inevitable proud display of his post op “battle scars” (i.e. old man nudity) he told me something that I found equal parts stoic and bad ass.
“Son, I'm gonna die soon but I've lived a great life and I have no regrets. I hope you can say the same when you're my age."
That didn't mean much at 22-when you're the smartest guy in the room and nothing can touch you
BUT....
At 34
WHOA!!
Which, I would assume, means different things to different guys
1.Get Rich
2.Get Married
3.Whore it Up
4.All of the Above
While I won't disclose any of my personal motivations, I will say that I had been thinking about someone from the past. Someone who, long ago, was my favorite gf. I figured this was a good idea, because for guys that aren't a baller/trust fund baby/musician with a record deal
this is how dating often goes
So when it comes to seeing someone from the past, it makes you wonder if something is still there-a spark-something. I decided to pursue this. The whole "what if" factor has been on my mind forever. So it's only natural that I would give it a shot.
Ever heard the saying, "Everything happens for a reason"? Well they're right.
That's why they call it "the past". Unless you're an archaeologist, it's best not to spend your time digging up old bones.
Just like the old man said, no regrets.
So now it's time to get back on the trail, and look for a new scent to pick up.
