The TCU men's basketball team finished 12-21 last season but, under new head coach Jamie Dixon, made it to the NIT Final Four the following year -- and people are noticing.
Dixon has been named a finalist for the 2017 Jim Phelan National Coach of the Year award, given to the top Division I men's basketball coach. The winner will be announced in Phoenix, Arizona, where the NCAA Final Four is set to take place.
TCU currently has a 22-12 record, with an NIT matchup against UCF set for Tuesday.
This is the fifth time Dixon has been nominated for a Coach of the Year award, having been honored by Sporting News in 2011, Phelan and USA Basketball in 2010, and Naismith in 2009.
Other nominees include Oregon coach Dana Altman, Gonzaga coach Mark Few, North Carolina coach Roy Williams, South Carolina coach Frank Martin and Kansas coach Bill Self. The full list can be found here.
