Oh, what a night.
It all started with a 20-3 run in the opening minutes, and from then on, it was all Horned Frogs. Commanding dunks, masterful ball movement and decisive turnovers led TCU to an 88-56 victory over Georgia Tech, earning the Frogs their first NIT title in program history. Junior guard Kenrich Williams was named Most Outstanding Player, leading the team with 25 points, 12 rebounds and 4 steals.
But nearly everyone on the team had the chance to play.
Junior forward Vlad Brodziansky, who had come to TCU from Slovakia, totaled 18 points, which included an impressive dunk in the second period after Williams missed the shot. Sophomore guard Alex Robinson, too, had a solid performance, with 10 points and 11 assists. All four seniors -- Brandon Parrish, Michael Williams, Karviar Shepherd and Chris Washburn -- each had minutes. As the clock expired, despite already securing the victory at 86-56, Parrish's younger brother Josh, a freshman guard, threw in one last windmill dunk to finish the game, while his older brother watched in tears.
TCU finished the season 24-15 -- a far different result from last year's 12-21 season.
"I told them, I wish we had a game tomorrow, the way we're playing right now," head coach Jamie Dixon said in the press conference following the game. "Otherwise I told them, [8 a.m.] class tomorrow morning. So we'll get back. And [we're] certainly excited for our program. Excited for our school. Our turnout was unbelievable. I think we're starting something special and really looking forward to it."
