Ever since JP’s dad committed suicide, he’d been trying to fill the void in his life with meth. TMC was raised in the streets, robbed an elderly couple at gun point and then rose through the ranks in the notorious Texas Syndicate prison gang. BSS was sexually abused as a child and became a sex offender. All JC knew was the streets; the only way he knew to have a good time was when he was high and having sex. These are just a few examples of the men whose lives have been changed forever by the love and the grace of God, and who’ve been helped and given hope by Hope Prison Ministries.
Do you know someone at risk of going to, already in, or about to be released from prison? Hope Prison Ministries, Inc., is a local nonprofit organization that provides Christ-centered mentoring and accountability at all of these stages. Nationally, the recidivism rate — the percentage of those that return to prison within three years of incarceration — is greater than 65%. Among those mentored by Hope Prison Ministries, during and after incarceration, the rate of recidivism is zero (you read that right: 0). Hope Prison Ministries offers its services to anyone who desires to grow in the Christian faith, regardless of their criminal history.
Through InmateMentors.com, experienced mentors write letters, send books, accept collect calls, help those incarcerated plan and prepare for release, and, when permitted, connect those released with one or more mentors from a local church, nationwide. The books they send are not fluff; they are select titles from the best Christian authors that target the areas where those being mentored have the greatest struggles. The books range from basic introductions to the faith to in-depth studies regarding theology, addiction, marriage, family, parenting, anger, sex, money, and more.
Through HopeAfterPrison.com, Hope Prison Ministries helps locate transitional housing for those being released from prison and makes every effort to connect them with one or more mentors from the local church, nationwide. In Texas, Hope Prison Ministries operates HOPE’s Houses — three, Christ-centered transitional living homes where they offer full-service aftercare. Those who choose to come under care of a HOPE’s House are required to view and take notes from DVDs by Paul Tripp, Dave Ramsey, and they now have access to more than 20,000 educational videos from RightNowMedia @ Work.
In the past, Hope Prison Ministries has received grants from The Amon G. Carter Foundation, the Amon G. Carter Star Telegram Employees Fund, the Sid W. Richardson Foundation, and Walmart’s Community Grant program. But the impact of the coronavirus has hit all nonprofits and foundations hard, resources are scarce. Hope Prison Ministries needs your help to support its ministries in the prisons and in the community as men struggle to reestablish their identification and find work.
