The Cellar bar opened its doors for the last time on Saturday, Oct. 30, allowing everyone to enjoy one last night out at their favorite local dive bar. The bar, known for its Karaoke Thursdays and close proximity to TCU’s campus, has been a go-to spot for students since it was previously known as the Hi-Hat.
TCU purchased the lot where both The Cellar and Stay Wired Coffee Shop stood in order to ensure more parking options for students. TCU’s Chancellor Victor Boschini said he was trying to buy anything close to campus that could help TCU students have better experiences with parking.
“The biggest complaint I get from students is parking and that's going to be a ton of parking space right there,” Boschini told TCU360 at a TCU town hall meeting.
The Cellar's management acted quickly after securing this deal with TCU. They closed their doors five days after notifying the bar's staff about the recent purchase. According to FW Weekly, the owners told their staff on Wednesday that the bar would be closed after Saturday night.
Students and alumni came out from all over Fort Worth to have one last drink at The Cellar, and they were able to reminisce about their favorite memories and best wishes on the outside of the bar. Guests started signing the bar's black walls with sharpie letting the rest of the community know how much the bar would be missed.
Although the building will soon be gone, The Cellar will still remain strong in many locals' hearts as part of their best college memories. The Cellar lives on through its supporters and their memories.
