The 2019 Near Southside Shindig.
It’s the last day to buy tickets to the Near Southside Shindig, the neighborhood’s annual gala and fundraiser; and if we know the Near Southside, this isn’t going to be a black-dress, black-tie event one may expect.
In fact, it’ll be quite the opposite. When the Shindig takes place Feb. 28, local movers and shakers will be there to celebrate the Southside while raising money for the neighborhood.
Everybody who’s anybody will be in attendance — and, yes, anybody and everybody is invited (i.e., it’s open to the public). So, if you plan to attend, here’s everything you need to know.
Before the Shindig
Where to Go: The Shindig will be hosted downtown at the Omni Fort Worth Hotel, right across the street from the Fort Worth Water Gardens.
Where to Park: The hotel will offer valet parking, but guests also have the option to park in nearby garages or on the street. Street parking is free at night, so it’s best to get there early so you can navigate the downtown traffic and find a good spot.
When It Starts: The gala takes place from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. There’s a lot to do and see, so plan on getting there from the start to soak in as much as possible.
During the Shindig
What to Wear: The theme this year is Red & Blue 3D Bonanza — think old-school 3D glasses. What that exactly means, the Near Southside didn’t say. But they do say to come dressed in your brightest shades of red and blue and be prepared to make a statement that you only can in the Southside.
What to Do: The Shindig will include live music, an art auction, specialty cocktails, and more. Need an Insta-worthy pic? A La Cart AV will put up interactive video and projection installations so you can snap away.
The art auction will be a little different from others — guests will be bidding on signature pieces made by local artists such as Jan Riggins, Laura Mayberry, Choke, and Nathan Madrid. Watch the art be created, then bid big to be the one to take it home at the end of the night.
The Keynote
This year’s keynote speaker is Mick Ebeling, founder and CEO of Not Impossible, a social innovation lab and production company. Ebeling’s company focuses on creating devices that help bring accessibility to all. Through Not Impossible, he has been able to produce initiatives like Music: Not Impossible, which allowed both deaf and hearing individuals to hear music in a “surround body” experience. Stick around for the speech and expect to leave inspired.
How to Give Back
When you buy a ticket to the annual Shindig, all proceeds from the fundraiser go directly toward supporting local events and community projects for locals to enjoy all year long.
What Else?
Shake Hands: This is probably this most important part — don’t be shy. You never know who you are going to meet, so be prepared to talk to anyone and everyone.
Catch Up: Near Southside, Inc. president Mike Brennan will take the stage to give a full overview on project updates and current happenings. Be the first to know about what is coming to the neighborhood in 2020, and how you can get involved.
