Amon Carter Museum of American Art
The Amon Carter Museum of American Art is turning the big six-oh this year, and with pandemic precautions lifted and the world slowly opening up again, the Fort Worth institution is planning a birthday bash that promises to celebrate with a bang.
Seriously. There will be fireworks.
The Carter Museum's 60th Birthday Bash will take place Sept. 25 from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m. The party will feature art-inspired activities, live music, food trucks, and fireworks on the lawn to conclude the night. Fort Worth DJ Ronnie Heart will kick off the music starting at 6:30 p.m., with Austin Americana musician Shakey Graves headlining at 8 p.m.
During the event, two new exhibits will be open to the public — "Imagined Realism: Scott and Stuart Gentling," the first exhibition to highlight the work of Fort Worth artists Scott and Stuart Gentling, and "Anila Quayyum Agha: A Beautiful Despair," which will showcase site-specific sculptural installations alongside related drawings by Pakistani-American multidisciplinary artist Anila Quayyum Agha. The Carter will also offer a “60 Years of Art” Art Discovery Guide and free activities led by current and former Carter Community Artists.
Additionally, attendees will get the chance to contribute to a community family photo album, create 3-D paper artwork, sign a giant birthday card, and purchase Fort Worth-themed T-shirts screen-printed on-site by Pan Ector.
Participating food trucks include Shawerma Man, The Beignet Bus, Birrieria Y Taqueria Cortez, and Morgan's Ice Cream Co. Museum members will also have access to a VIP area with free drinks and light bites.
Sponsoring the event is Meador Dodge Chrysler Jeep Ram, supported by Luther King Capital Management, The Projects Group, William E. Scott Foundation, and the Board of Trustees and the Ambassador Council of the Carter.
“The Carter is thrilled to celebrate our 60th anniversary with a free, fun event with our community, who have played such a vital role on the past six decades of the Carter,” museum executive director Andrew J. Walker said in a statement. “With an evening of art, activities, and live music from the talented Shakey Graves, we know it will be a night to remember ending with the biggest birthday candles we could find — a fireworks show overlooking downtown Fort Worth from our lawn.”
Tickets are free and will become available on the Carter's website starting July 1.
