The popular ice sculpture exhibit ICE! will not be coming to the Gaylord Texan this year due to COVID-19. Instead, the Grapevine resort will feature a new attraction that promises to be just as cool — and hopefully won't leave your lips numb by the end of it.
I Love Christmas Movies, which will run Nov. 13 — Jan. 3, 2021, will be an immersive experience that allows guests to walk through scenes from iconic Christmas movies like "A Christmas Story," "The Polar Express," and "The Year Without a Santa Claus." Scenes will include replicas of film props, audio clips, and more — think Santa’s North Pole workshop from "Elf" and the Griswold’s house from "National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation." The exhibit is a collaboration with Warner Bros. Consumer Products.
Additionally, the Gaylord Texan will feature a new outdoor walkthrough attraction that includes 100,000 square feet of holiday lights and decor. There will also be snowman building with real snow, along with other activities like snow tubing, ice skating, gingerbread decorating, character breakfasts, a holiday scavenger hunt, stories with Mrs. Claus, and Christmas-themed escape rooms.
In light of the pandemic, the resort plans to abide by safety protocols outlined by Marriott’s Commitment to Clean program and follow social-distancing measures, along with monitoring local, state, and federal legislation, according to a news release.
“More than ever this winter, friends and families will be seeking places they can go to experience the joy and magic of the holiday season together in a safe setting," Mike Stengel, senior vice president of Gaylord Hotels at Marriott International, said in a statement. "We are looking forward to providing an amazing selection of unique and memorable experiences for them at our open resorts in a safe and secure manner."
