Well, here it is! I know you've been waiting to see what I whipped up for my DI table this year. I did a frog and dessert theme. I've been eyeballing these custom made paper mache toads in mom's entertainment storage for several years...figuring out how and when to use them. Nothing like a crazy table decorating party to get the creative juices flowing.
First, I had to figure out how to get all 5 frogs to fit on the table plus all the dishes and crap! Only one solution - GO UP! Designing a structure from scratch isn't a 5 minute job, so I sat down with Jim Irwin and my mom and the brainstorming session began! Before I knew it, Jim had masterfully drawn a 3 tiered stand with 9 platforms. PERFECTION! Then we had conferencing and picture texting with the most creative guru ever Raymond Kelly, who commissioned the frogs for a party years ago. He knew just the person to build this metal powder-coated sculpture, and it arrived at the house a week later.
The frogs are dressed for a ballet. Above is my kind of gal...a martini after a good workout!
I mentioned to Jim Irwin that I wanted to do real cakes and floral cakes. The floral cakes are mostly made with carnations. It's a fairly inexpensive flower and perfect for longevity. Flowers drink a lot of water and when you use floral foam, they need even more water. Watering flowers for the next 36 hours was not on my agenda not to mention I couldn't reach to the top of this 10 foot tall structure if my life depended on it!
There are many ways to tie bows and do sashes for the back of chairs! I thought the basket weave was most appropriate for the theme of this table. I saw these darling felt watering cans while shopping at World Market with Jim. A must purchase!
Stemware compliments of mom with all her years of collecting. Feather butterflies also from World Market, and the insect napkin rings (which didn't make it home with us) WERE from Amen Wardy in Aspen! Long story! All linen's were rented through BBJ out of Dallas.
There were more silver compotes and crystal platters stacked on MORE crystal platters filled with fun desserts from the Central Market bakery. They always do an EXCELLENT job and are well priced. I just LOVE these Hydrangea & Marigold cupcakes! And who doesn't love a silver dish filled to the brim with macaroons!
J.Rae's did all the froggie cookies for me. I had little ones for the tiered platters and big ones for the party favors that each of the guest got to take home.
